The 31-year-old attacking midfielder is having a tough season with the Gunners and has yet to play again after the campaign resumed following a coronavirus-suspended suspension.

Ozil did not name them after Arsenal lost 3–0 to Manchester City in their first match, although they were substitutes for the two matches.

Given the shortage of minutes, it is not surprising that the German absences were announced when Michael Arteta's inaugural XI and bench were announced at Bramall Lane.

However, Arsenal quickly confirmed a "minor back injury", with Ozil not being picked up during the match due to a continuation of training a day earlier.

Arsenal are aiming to become the second team to qualify for this season's FA Cup semi-final after beating Norwich City in extra time on Saturday.
