Gunmen attacked Pakistan Stock Exchange, killing six people - police

KARACHI, Pakistan, June 29 Four gunmen attacked a Pakistan Stock Exchange building in Karachi on Monday, but security forces soon killed all of them.

Two other people were also killed, the army said.

Karachi police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon told Reuters that the gunmen attacked the headquarters of several private banks, a high-security building with grenades and firearms.

"The four attackers were killed. They arrived in a silver Corolla car," Memnon said.

There is no immediate claim of liability. Pakistan has long been suffering from Islamic terrorist violence, but attacks have diminished in recent years.

The gunmen initially threw a grenade and then opened fire at the security checkpoint outside the building. All four were killed as security forces responded.

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) said on Twitter that "the situation is still unclear and with the help of the security forces, the management will maintain security and control the situation."
