Iranian ship arrives in Venezuela waters with food cargo

Caracas  According to the Definitive Akon and the Iranian Embassy in Venezuela, the Iranian ship arrived on Sunday with a cargo from the port of La Gera in Venezuela to supply the South American country's first Iranian supermarket.

Iran supplied 1.5 million barrels of fuel to Venezuela last month and made it more difficult to find fuel in the international market amid refinery operations and US stringent sanctions.

Iranian flag-bound General Cargo Ship Golson, owned by Moskar Darya Shipping Company, sailed from Bandra Abbas on May 15. According to Icon data, five tankers left the Caribbean from a single port in March after loading fuel.

"Venezuela is reaching out to foodies to open the first Iranian supermarket," the Iranian embassy wrote on Saturday via its Twitter account. It did not provide details.

The Venezuelan Ministry of Information did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

While Iran is helping to overcome the shortage of fuel in Venezuela, Iran hopes to send two to three gasoline a month to its ally, Venezuela, sources close to the case said.

The US may retaliate because of increased bilateral trade, which has implemented a wide range of sanctions against both countries.
