President of Kosovo, 9 former warriors incited to war crimes

Kosovo President Pristina and nine other former separatist fighters have been charged with humanitarian and war crimes, including the assassination of Kosovo during the 1998-99 Independence War with Serbia.

In a statement issued by the prosecutor of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers released on Wednesday, President Hashim Tisi and other suspects are "criminally responsible for nearly 100 murders", including hundreds of Kosovar Albanian, Serb and Roma victims, as well as political rivals.

Other charges include forced disappearance, harassment, and violence.

Over 10,000 people died in the war of 1998-1999 and 1,641 are still unaccounted for. It ended after a 78-day NATO air campaign.

Serbia did not accept Kosovo's 2008 Declaration of Independence.
