ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday directed all stakeholders to ensure the balance between the measures taken to control COVID-19 and the livelihood of the people.

 

It was decided’ that a complete lockdown would not be implemented in the country despite the onset of the second wave of the virus and the increase in infections. The Prime Minister has specifically directed the hospital to make arrangements for care so that there is an increase in the number of cases of Covid 19, especially important care equipment.

 

In this context, he chaired a meeting of the National Coordinating Committee (NCC) at Cove 19. Federal ministers and senior officials attended the meeting while the chief ministers participated through video link.

 

The Prime Minister directed the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) to work out a plan of action for the future in consultation with all stakeholders and issue necessary instructions. The NCOC informed about the current Covid 19 situation and patterns of disease spread and increased the positive ratio.

 

The Prime Minister appreciated the efforts made by the NCOC and all stakeholders for public safety and health. The NCC has recently endorsed the NCOC's initiatives, including the implementation of the decision to wear facemasks, the reduction of markets, restaurants, wedding halls and the implementation of smart lockdown is.

 

Separately, Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired another meeting and directed Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhr Imam to formulate an action plan for immediate supply of flour across the country. He directed the Minister to consult the provincial governments, flourmills association and other concerned persons.

 

In this regard, a committee headed by the Federal Minister for National Food Security was’ formed. To this end, the Prime Minister chaired a review meeting on commodity prices here.

 

The meeting considered various proposals to ensure that daily necessities are provided’ at reasonable prices. Usman Dar, Special Assistant for Youth Affairs, with the help of Tiger Force volunteers, presented a ground-based report on the prices of daily necessities.

 

The Prime Minister appreciated the services of the Tiger Force volunteers. The Prime Minister directed that a mechanism be put’ in place to stabilize wheat prices across the country and provide direct subsidy on flour to those living below the poverty line.

 

He said that there was no shortage of food items in the country but effective and practical steps should be taken to maintain stability in the prices of essential commodities especially flour and wheat.

 

The meeting was informed’ that 368 convenience bazaars have been set up in Punjab province, where a 20 kg bag of flour was being sold for Rs. 840. The Prime Minister directed the provincial governments to take indiscriminate action against profiteers and hoarders in collaboration with the district administration.

 

The meeting was informed’ that more than 8000 tons of wheat are being released daily by Sindh province. The Prime Minister directed the Punjab Government to ensure the availability of flour at the outlets of Utility Stores Corporation as required.

 

Federal Minister for Industries and Production Hamad Azhar informed the meeting that one-lakh tonnes of sugar has reached Karachi, out of which 25,000 tonnes have been procured’ by the Utility Stores Corporation and 75,000 tonnes by Punjab government.

 

The Minister informed the meeting that the crushing season of sugarcane in Punjab would start from November 10 after which the prices of sugar would come down significantly, but this process would start from November 30 in Sindh province.

 

Addition of APP: Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Hussain Chaudhry met Prime Minister Imran Khan here on Tuesday and briefed him about the affairs of the ministry. The current political situation in the country was also discussed’ during the meeting.
